RC Quadcopter Review

This model is the U818A-1 UDIR/C It is made with a very light weight plastic. Suprisingly it has held up to my abuse as a complete novice at RC flying devices. I have a great time with this RC to say the very least.

For starters when you get this take the time to get everything out of the box and removing the tie downs holding the quadcopter in. From there grab the charger, it is a USB type charger that has 2 small slots on it. One on each side of the unit. Plug this into a USB port on your laptop, wall mount, or tower and plug in the two batteries. Now for the most important step! grab the instuctions booklet that it came with and read it. This has a lot of information about the unit you will not know unless you have had a lot of experience with this type of RC and controller.

Now that you have read the instuctions and you have charged the batteries. It is time to get it into the air. You will need to put 4 AA batteries in the back of the controller to start with. Next there is a slid slot for the battery to go in under the camera mount. Push the battery into place fully with the pull tab out so you can remove the battery easily. Now you need to find the wire that hooks to the battery. Mine was under the thin plactic surface plate that I had to fish out. Once you have that then hook up the battery. It will be evident once you have power to the unit as all the lights come on. You will not be able to take off directly since the controller has a safety feature. You have to take the power side(left side) all the way to the bottom of its motion to engage the controller to the unit.

This is where the instuction booklet will come in handy. They show you in the book about the 3 control buttons to help control the flight. First you have the bottom left slide button, this controls the left and right rudder trim. Second is top right button, this controls the forward and backword trim. The third button is the lower right, this button left and right trimmer.

Once you are in flight and undercontrol there is a LCD light screen. On each side of this screen are two buttons. Top left takes pictures as you push the button. The bottom left turn the camera on and off for video. Top right offers the instant flip of the quadcopter. Bottom right is the speed button. This is the one that sets the mode of the unit. There are 2 modes in all. The first mode is for beginners and has the more controlled flight stability. The second is for the experts, will be a long time before I see that button! Next are the two flight controllers. The left main control knob is for the throttle. When applying more throttle it will show up in the middle of the LCD screen on the amount you are giving. Most of the time it takes about 20% to even get it to start lifting for me. The main button on the right offers your control in direction of flight. The last button is the top of the controller on the right side. This turns on and off an additional white light. This could even be used for Morse Code.

Now the batteries only last 7 or 8 minutes so be prepared for a lot of down time. The batteries take about 2 hours to charge. I found this out and I bought a different charge that came with 5 batteries. This charge keeps up with 5 batteries on top of the 2 that my unit came with. This usually gives me about an hour of total flight time before recharge. Believe me I need all the flight time I can get.

If you are in the market for a new type of RC to learn how to operate, this is an AWESOME choice. This breaks away from the normal everyday boring RC's for sure since it brings flight into the game. This unit is great for the starter RC flight devices since it has the easy mode. Do not get me wrong easy mode still takes practice to get a smooth flight. I would like to thank Kaliber Global for sending hours of entertainment and the RC to try out and give my opinion.
