This unit is much larger then I thought upon ordering it. It is made mostly of thick plastic other then the spring and blade. In my box upon delivery was the mincer and an instructions manual.
The concept of the Mincer is very simple. Take the cap off of the bottom to expose the blades. Set you item to be minced on a cutting board. Place the mincer over you food to be minced. Lastly start pressing down on the top plunger fully to mince what is inside.
I have personally tried this with garlic and onions. I tried this mincer out on garlic in the husk and peeled. With the garlic in the husk it does seperate the husk from the garlic and mince the garlic. When it is done though it is kind of a mess because it leaves some of the full husks in with the minced garlic. So I would suggest peeling your fresh garlic first. The mincer worked perfect on peeled onions as well. Depending on how fine you want to chop, dice, or mince can be gauaged through the clear plastic housing around the blade. Having this clear view area in the blade area gives you the ability to see when you need to stop the chopping process.
As for the clean up of the unit. The top spreads apart exposing the entire inside and outside of the unit. This makes it easy to get to all of the areas and remove food particles that have gotten in to the small areas of the mincer. This unit is not dishwasher safe! Now once you have it cleaned you clamp the upper housing back together. This is the only part I do not like. It does not clamp together easily, you can not bring one side down and then the other, they have to be closed at the same time and it can be a pain.
If you are in the market for a mincer/chopper that can be used on many types of food, this could be exactly what you are looking for. It says it can be used to chop garlic, nuts, fruit, onions, and other small food items.
