At first sight this pillow looks odd. It is a semi horse shoe shaped pillow with a few contours to the surface. This cushion is also made from memory foam so it will spring back to its shape time and time again.
The cushion comes with a cover that you can remove wash as it is needed. I wash mine with a load of towels and have had no issues other then no securing the zipper and it clanking on the inside drum of the dryer. I have also tested using febreeze on the cover with the foam still in the sleeve. It worked out just fine for a temporary fix to cover spilled food or whatever may be happening to yours.
Now for the memory foam part of this cushion. If you are more than about 225 the cushion does squish fairly flat but still enough to keep the tailbone off of the hard surface. Keeping the tailbone off of the hard surface is the entire goal of this cushion. Now once you get up off of the cushion it takes anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds to return to its true form.
The opening in the cushion does go to the back of the chair where your tailbone will match up to the cushion. If you do not place this in the proper spot it will not help with reducing pressure on the tailbone. I know that using this pillow helps me a lot with my headahce. Taking the pressure off of the tailbone removes it from the spine all the way up into my head. Less pressure means less pain regardless of the situation as far as I know.
This pillow is great for anyone who sits for an extended amount of time for their job, disability, or my use while playing cards for hours on end into the late hours of the morning. The pillow also works great for someone with Coccyx issues, spinal issues, and headaches for taking away a great deal of the pressure. Now understand it does take the pressure off of the spine. It transfers that pressure to your Femur's of both legs. After an extended amount of time sitting the back of your legs may feel a bit of distress. All I have to do when this occurs is get up and walk around for a few minutes and I am usually good for a couple more hours before I need to walk the legs again.
If you are looking for a very comfortable pillow to relive pressure off of your tailbone, spine, neck, and head this is one you might want to pick up. The cushion is made from memory foam, has a washable covering, and great to relieve pressure from your spinal coloum.
