BX-550 USB Bike Light Review

This is another remarkable light from Stupidbright.com It is designed to mount on a bicycle or something about the same size as the handle bars of a bike. I have mounted this to a walker for my friend so he can see to get around the house at night much easier. Upon ordering this light it comes with a rechargeable battery, mounting clip, USB to micro USB cable, and an instructions manual.

Okay to start with this light is very bright. I am able to light up hundreds of feet in front of me on the brightest setting. There are 4 light settings of high, medium, light, and strobe. There is a power button on the top of the light that you press to go through the different levels of light. It starts out on bright when you press to turn the light on for the first time. Pressing the button a second time will take you to medium setting. Pressing the the button a thrid time put the light on low level setting. Pressing the button one last time will put it on the strobe setting. To turn the light off you have to press and hold the button for 3 seconds to power the light down.

The mounting of this light is by far the easiest I have seen from this type of mount. It is a click type round strap. This is the one thing I do not like about this light because to me this looks like it is made with out a lot of thought to durability. Once you have this clamp in place there is a black pad that the light slides on and can look to the clamp. That is all there is to mounting this light.

This light also comes wiht an IP65 rating. This means: Protected from total dust ingress and Protected from low pressure water jets from any direction. The rating makes it safe to use in the rain incase you are caught in a rain storm on your bike. Being air tight also prevents a lot of damage some lights like this do not offer. With the build of this light there comes a 2 year warranty on normal wear and tear of the light. This does not cover you running over the light with your truck and claiming it as a faulty item.

For recharing the light you will need to use a micro USB cable and plug it into a powered USB port. I was able to charge this light from my laptop, desktop, back up battery pack, 110w adapter, and my lighter plug adapter in my vehicle. It takes any where from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the USB port you are charging from. 110W adapater was the fastest and the lighter plug in my vehicle was the slowest. Depending on the level of light you are using will determine the battery length. On the high setting and strobe it will last about 3 hours. On medium and low it will last 4 to 7 hours.

If you are looking for a very bright light that mounts really easy this is one you may want to consider. This light is stupid bright on the high settings, made to be durable, water resistant, and rechargeable. I would like to thank stupidbright.com for sending me this light try out and share my opinion.
