Okay how this works is it creates air while you are pouring you wine. This does help to increase the body of the wines. 99% of the people on Earth can not tell a difference on most wines with an aerator. Typically a white wine does not need to be run through an aerator. As you are pouring with this aerator in the top of the bottle there is a bubbly popping noise as the wine is being poured. It is very easy to see the added air to the wine you are pouring with the bubbles it creates in the glass.
For cleaning I use hot water only. I will take my faucet and set it to maximum heat. I then put on my silicone gloves so I do not burn my hands while cleaning. I then run the hot water for 4 or 5 minutes to make sure I have flushed the aerator completely. I then set the aerator into the dish drainer to air dry.
