This is a battery powered light designed for darker areas you may come across. This light is also motion sensitive and light sensitive. When you order this it comes with the mounting plate, a 3M sticky tape, and the light housing.
To start with this light works off of motion. It will turn on when it picks up the motion of a larger object moving in its path. Something human like size. The light also has a sensor to detect if there is already enough light or some added light has been brought into the area and shuts off if it is bright enough.
The light this puts off is not extremely bright. To me it is more designed for places like under the stairwell in the basement for when bad storms are about. It could have uses under cabinets and in closets as well. I can also see where someone that does a lot of traveling might carry it along and set it up in the motel room. I know those do not come with night lights and the middle of the night jaunt to the restroom will be much better with some lighting. Not to mention it wont be a blinding light from a dead sleep. I have mine placed in my hall closet to light up when I am grabbing one of my coats. It is also a nice feature for the guests to be able to have a well lit area to see for hanging their coats.
Now to install this is pretty simple. There is a sticky piece of 3M tape included in the package. Attach this to the back plate of the light housing. Then press the plate against the wall. Make sure not to place the slide out to the bottom. From there once it is in place you put your 3 batteries in place. Then you slide the switch on the back to auto. Now if you are not going to mount it you can control it with the on/off functions directly. Now once you have the setting to on/off/auto slide the light housing into the clips on the plate. Since I am mounting mine I also took a small drill bit and added a small hole to the bottom plate and shot a screw into the stud. I know 3M is a great adhesive, but after time it will still lose the tacky nature. If you are going to do like I did make sure to use a bit to cut the hole and not shoot the screw directly through the plate or it will most likely crack.
If you are looking for a night light for darker areas around your house, lighting the path to the restroom in a motel, or a child's room to kick on when the child might wake and not be scared. This is a light you might want to consider since it is really easy to set up and use.
