Bluetooth Outdoor/Waterproof Speaker Review

This is a wireless rechargable Bluetooth speaker from AYL. It is built extrememly well and looks like it would be able to take some accidental punishment. The speaker claims to work upto 10 meters, well for me it was actually a bit closer to 13 meters which is a great thing. This makes it where I can take it anywhere in the house and listen to my music with out losing my connection. Upon ordering the speaker it came with: The speaker, 3.5 mm cord with male jacks on both ends, USB to micro USB charging cable, a bag to keep it all in, and an instructions manual.

Okay first things first, this speaker is built fairly solid. It is not the run of the mills cheap plastic. It seems to be made from plastic but a much thicker housing then most I have seen. It also has silcone around the oustide edges less the front and back of the unit. This helps with impact damage incase it is dropped or knocked over. There is a nice large sized tab of silicone that covers the ports for charging and 3.5 mm jack. The only part of this unit that is weak are the cover to the plug areas which could pull off and break pretty easy. The only other weak spot is the carrying handle added to the unit. It is silicone and does not seem to be very sturdy.

Next is the water resistance ratings. This speaker has an IP5x rating. Now what this means is IPX-5 – Protected against low pressure water stream from any angle. Had to look that one up so I could figure out how much water I could subject it to. What this means is you can take it into the shower with you, or out on the boat and you do not have to worry about it getting wet. It does not protect from being submerged though. So do not drop it in the bottom of the pool to chase and think it is going to be fine when you bring it back out. This is however perfect for out on the deck on a rainy day so you can have your tunes and watch the storm if you want.

The sound quality is really good with this speaker. It does offer all 3 ranges of music. The tweets and mid ranges come in very clear and without any issues. The bass is not a driving bass but it is noticable with this speaker. Most of these small speakers claim to have bass and rarely have any to speak of, with this one you can at least here the bass being hit. The greatest thing about this speaker is the clarity, it is rather amazing for such a small box. With my tablet I could push the volume pretty hard. If you use the buttons on the unit for volume it will only go up so far. I am guessing that is their recommened volume level. I did however use the volume control on my tablet after taking it to max with the unit buttons to drive the volume much louder. I was able to take it to about 3x louder then where the buttons on the unit allowed. The speaker was able to handle it at full volume with out any distortion. I do not think anyone should push the speaker that hard for any length of time because it is bound to have an issue sooner or later blasting it at max. At most you should not go more then about 70% of the max volume for any length of time to make sure the longevity of the speaker is maintained. That should be pretty much a rule for any speaker though.

When it comes to pairing the speaker it is super easy to get paired. I tried pairing on my cell phone, my nephews cell phone, both of our tablets, and my laptop. Each and every one of the devices located the speaker quickly. I cliked to pair in my pairing window and about 3 seconds later it was fully paired with any device that I wanted that was Bluetooth capable. If you do not have a Bluetooth device it also comes with a 3.5mm cord with male jacks on both ends. That will make it where you can hook it directly to the device and use as a speaker.

Charging the unit is very simple as well. I was able to plug the micro USB cable into my laptop, desktop tower, wall mount USB charger, backup battery charger, and my car charger. All of them were no problem with this unit and took the charge nicely. The first intial charge took about an 1 hour and 15 minutes. Subsequent charges have taken 24 to 41 minutes depending on how drained the battery was in the speaker. On my back up chager it took about 45 minutes for it to get to full charge which is not bad. Once the unit is charged for me it lasts about 7 hours.

If you are looking for a very versatile speaker and able to with stand some of the environment then this is a speaker to try out for sure. It has great sound for being in such a small package, super easy to pair, and has great range. I would like to thank Accessorise Your Life and affiliates for sending me this speaker to try out and share my opinion.
